Baseboard Heater
Baseboard Heating is considered to be the best way to heat a room
Baseboard Heater Information
Baseboard heating systems are set up so that each baseboard is responsible for heating a particular room or area. Each unit is controlled by a thermostat, which can be located on the wall or on the unit itself.
There are two basic components of a baseboard heating system: the element and the thermostat. The element produces heat when electricity passes through it. Each element contains a series of metal plates called fins, which help send heat to a broader area. The thermostat simply tells the element when to activate and for how long.
How does it work? Cold air is drawn over the heated fins from the bottom of the baseboard and directed into the room by a deflector hood. The heated air rises and forces the cold air to the floor, and the process repeats itself.
General Information:
The electric baseboard heater uses convection to circulate air. By superior design and proper placement under a window area, the electric baseboard case causes air to flow naturally. The cold air falls from the window area as the warm air rises from the heater, causing the air to tumble gently throughout the room. The electric baseboard heater is the number one choice for low cost installation, and the quiet operation makes it the preferred heater for bedrooms. Cadet recommends a wall-mounted thermostat for optimum performance, or you may prefer the convenience of an optional field mount thermostat kit.
Architectural Information:
Electric baseboard heaters shall be UL Listed, factory rated at 120V, 208V, and dual rated from 208V to 240V. Element shall be steel sheathed calrod element with channel shaped aluminum fins. A full length capillary sensor tube shall be an integral part of each unit. Case, cover, and deflector shall be made of 24 gauge steel with 20 gauge junction box containing a grounding pigtail. All metal pieces shall be finished with a powder coat paint system.
Technical Information:
Baseboard heaters work best when placed under a window and at least 1' from furniture or other objects. Keep at least 12" minimum from objects hanging above (i.e., drapes). Do not install below electrical outlets.
The electric baseboard heater may be placed directly on the floor and mounted to the wall. There are only a few exceptions listed in the installation instructions.
An optional Cadet MTX mounting tool is helpful for installing the heater. Originally designed for mounting baseboard heaters, its applications are unlimited.
